Ed Smith brings a global perspective and deep cultural fluency to his role as Director of Multicultural Communications at Fose + McKay. A native Spanish speaker who grew up in Mexico City, Ed has spent more than three decades living and working across Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia in high-level diplomatic and industry roles.
As a former U.S. Foreign Service Officer, Ed led economic, political, and public diplomacy efforts in 10 overseas postings and senior roles in Washington. He served as Special Assistant to the Secretary of State, as Director of Aviation Negotiations, and as Deputy Chief of Mission in Trinidad and Tobago, and held key economic policy positions at U.S. Embassies in London, Rome, Brussels, Managua, and Port of Spain. Following his diplomatic service, he served as Senior Vice President at the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, where he championed global environmental policy initiatives, opened a Brussels office to strengthen EU engagement, and advanced aerospace industry access in China.
Ed combines a strategic mind with a deep understanding of diverse audiences and the ability to communicate across cultures with authenticity and precision. In addition to Spanish, he is conversant in Italian, French, and Portuguese. He resides in Washington, D.C., with his two sons. His leadership at Fose + McKay reflects a commitment to inclusive storytelling and impactful communications that resonate across communities.
